Every year I choose Three Words to Live By. This year my words are Integrity – Expansion – Belief.

In this post, I want to explore the concept of Expansion.

I choose to live in an Expansive way.

That means setting huge goals and visualizing my success. Even if I have no idea how I’m going to get there.

One of my goals is to have a better podcast and to reach more people with it. So I hired a Podcast Integrator (welcome Patti!) to support my vision for the podcast.

This is a huge leap of faith as the podcast is not revenue generating (yet!). I know I have great ideas to share with moms globally on the topics of career development, fitness, and personal growth. The podcast feels like the best way to put my messages out there. My podcast feels fun, so I’m following fun. I think the universe sends us joyful emotions when we’re on the “right track”.

Who knows what will happen with the podcast over the next year. It’s exciting to think about how my podcast will expand, and how I’ll develop new skills by engaging with it.

Expansion is personal growth.

Another way I’m being Expansive is by creating boundaries in my work availability. I know that seems counterintuitive. Can we actually get ahead financially by doing less? I’m learning we grow by being in alignment with our values, not by working more hours. The money flows when we’re fresh; when we’re physically, mentally, and emotionally available to engage in our profession. The work is actually knowing our values and living by them.

For years I worked with clients or by teaching classes most nights of the week. Then I would personal train a client the next morning, at their doorstep by 6:00 am. Over the last 18 months I’ve reduced my evening work to one or two nights a week and I have a single 6:00 am professional commitment. (Can’t pull me away from teaching an early morning boot camp!)

This year I realized I want to show up more for my family during our weekend downtime. I used to book clients on weekends and now I refuse to. Pat and I chose not to enrol our girls in weekend extracurriculars, so why was I giving my family time away to respond to a client’s urgent resume or interview prep requirement?

I love you and I want to help you. Just not on the weekend. There’s too much at stake if I’m not available for my partner and kids.

So, I’m learning we can expand by actually creating helpful parameters for what’s most important in our lives.

I have big plans for 2019 – a new group coaching program and I’m bringing back the Resume Breakthrough series. I’m expanding by offering value-added and free resources like my Resume Writing webinar and our Walking Challenge. This is a huge year of Expansion for me. And I hope it is for you too.
