Mash-Up Fitness: canfitpro CEC Workshop
Looking for inspiration to revamp your workouts? Consider blending two formats together to create a “mash-up” fitness experience for your PT clients and class participants.
Fusion Fitness is becoming more and more popular as participants want to revitalize a dull regimen and renew their commitment to exercise. By combining complimentary formats, participants train strength, cardio and flexibility with the added benefit of working their balance, coordination and agility. Mashing up dance, sculpt, intervals, yoga, boot camp and sports conditioning gives you the ultimate repertoire of routines to dazzle your clients.
This workshop will teach you how to develop creative and holistic programs that appeal to time-starved participants looking for innovative workouts that get results. This is a hands-on session that will get you developing new blended programs that you can teach right away. Please bring a sample of your favourite choreography/exercises to blend with another workshop attendee’s. Get ready to “mash it up”!

Fitness Instructor Specialist Certification Course
Working as a Fitness Instructor is incredibly rewarding. Making a difference in the health and wellness of others through exercise, your role is to educate, motivate and create a fun, safe environment for participants.

There are so many types of classes these days – some “dance-y” with lots of choreography, such as hi/lo aerobics, step, latin dance inspired, etc. Other classes such as boot camp, muscle conditioning, stretch/relaxation require little to no choreography. Our industry has evolved beyond the typical 80′s style aerobics with bouncy instructors shouting ”take it from the top”! With Canada’s aging population there will be high demand for certified instructors to lead senior’s programming and there are opportunities to work with children, mom’s and babies and everyone in between.
Certifying with canfitpro is the best way to break into the fitness industry. I am proud to be a PRO TRAINER for our national certifying agency. canfitpro is an industry leader in affordable, attainable, and high-quality fitness certification. Recognized across Canada and around the world, you too can be a part of Canada’s largest organization of fitness professionals.
The Certification Process includes:
A 25-hour course which is a combination of classroom and practical learning covering topics such as:
- Aspects of fitness, wellness and basic training principles
- Fitness theory: skeletal, muscular, neurological, cardiovascular and pulmonary systems
- Kinesiology/anatomy in action and bioenergetics
- Components of a fitness class from the warm-up to the cool-down
- Musicality: phrasing, cueing and appropriate music selection
- Leadership and motivation skills
- Special populations and injuries
The theory exam consists of 75 multiple choice questions and short answer questions. The practical exam which is an actual fitness class demonstration evaluated by your PRO TRAINER. You have up to 6 months from the passing of your theory exam to complete the practical – lots of time to practice!
Once you’ve passed the exams and have a valid CPR certification, you can apply for positions in gyms, schools, with community groups, with individual fitness companies (corporate wellness, bootcamps and stroller classes, for example) or even run your own classes (with insurance). Teaching is incredibly flexible (a great part-time job for moms and students or teachers on summer break!) and many companies offer free gym memberships, daycare, etc. to their instructors.
