When Vanessa signed up for a CareerFit Mom fitness class she was looking to get in shape after having kids. But, when she connected with another mom through a CFM networking event, it made a big impact on her career as well.

“I have a joint degree and was thinking about making a shift in focus,” she explains. Through a connection with another mom working in practicum placement, Vanessa gained the confidence to host a student herself. She is now working with her third student, and it is one of the favourite parts of her job.

“It was a real catalyst for change in my professional work.”

But, of course, this means this busy mom, like all moms, is trying to juggle work and home. “I am constantly seeking balance!” she jokes. She finds support and understanding in her friends of four years from CareerFit Mom.

“The community of women keeps me engaged and motivated. I really value the friendships I have made through my classes and it has been a good source of support and inspiration in my life.”

One of her highlights has been the running course she took two years ago. Admitting that she never saw herself as a runner, she was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed it. She continues to run to this day.

“It came at a time in my life when I felt overwhelmed with family and work responsibilities,” she explains. “Running became a great source of stress release and time for reflection. I don’t think I would have made the leap without the confidence I gained through classes combined with Beth’s support.”

Without hesitation, Vanessa recommends others try CareerFit Mom.  “It is a very supportive community and Beth and her instructors are committed, real women. You do not need to worry about fitting in – you can just find your place.”
